Page 1 of 3 KERN COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE Detentions Bureau Policies and Procedures TITLE: INCARCERATED PEOPLE LACTATION PROGRAM H-175 EFFECTIVE: REVIEWED: REVISED: UPDATED: December 30, 2016 07-11-24 07-11-24 APPROVED BY: REFERENCE: Detentions Bureau Chief Deputy Cindy Cisneros DBPPM H-100, H-150, H & S 1648 POLICY Post-partum incarcerated people who have given birth and are lactating will be allowed access to a breast pump for the purpose of expression of milk to relieve discomfort, to maintain milk supply, and/or to prevent infection. Upon transfer to the Lerdo Facilities incarcerated people who choose to provide milk for their child will be allowed to have pumped breast milk frozen by medical staff so that it may be picked up by a family member, or the child’s guardian. Class members will be notified of this program via the ‘Pregnant Incarcerated Person Advisement’ provided by medical staff pursuant to DBPPM H-150: Notification of Access to Medical Services
