Page 1 of 2 KERN COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE Detentions Bureau Policies and Procedures TITLE: Mattress Distribution D-700 EFFECTIVE: REVIEWED: REVISED: UPDATED: October 13, 2025 10-13-25 APPROVED BY: Detentions Bureau Chief Deputy REFERENCE: Title 15, Section §1270, DBPPM D-600, DBPPM I-100 POLICY The purpose of this policy is to maintain proper sanitation, accountability, and safety standards regarding incarcerated person bedding and to outline detentions personnel responsibilities if a damaged mattress is found. Mattresses that are soiled, infested, damaged, or otherwise unfit for use must be sanitized, repaired, or replaced before reissuance of that mattress. Sanitation of mattresses shall be handled pursuant to DBPPM D-600. Each incarcerated person shall receive a mattress upon housing and will return it upon their release, transfer, or as otherwise directed. Detentions personnel are responsible for inspecting, documenting, and tracking all mattresses during the check-out and check-in process.
