POLICY
The purpose of this policy is to maintain proper sanitation, accountability, and safety
standards regarding incarcerated person bedding and to outline detentions personnel
responsibilities if a damaged mattress is found. Mattresses that are soiled, infested,
damaged, or otherwise unfit for use must be sanitized, repaired, or replaced before
reissuance of that mattress. Sanitation of mattresses shall be handled pursuant to DBPPM
D-600.
Each incarcerated person shall receive a mattress upon housing and will return it upon
their release, transfer, or as otherwise directed. Detentions personnel are responsible for
inspecting, documenting, and tracking all mattresses during the check-out and check-in
process.
