Kern County Sheriff’s Office Policies and Procedures TITLE: DUTIES OF PERSONNEL – PARK RANGERS NO: B-225 APPROVED: Donny Youngblood, Sheriff-Coroner EFFECTIVE: REVIEWED: REVISED: UPDATED: February 10, 2025 February 10, 2025 POLICY The Kern County Sheriff’s Office recognizes that Park Rangers have responsibilities and limitations imposed by law that do not apply to other employees. It is therefore necessary to list duties for Park Rangers. Park Rangers are peace officers, as defined in Penal Code § 830.31(b), whose authority extends to any place in the state only while engaged in the performance of assigned duties in order to carry out the primary function of employment relating to his or her assignment, or while performing other law enforcement duties directed by the Sheriff-Coroner during a local state of emergency. Park Rangers shall prioritize enhancing the quality of life within our County Parks by focusing on proactive solutions and emphasizing education over enforcement whenever appropriate.
