California Senate Bill 902 – Firearms: Public Safety
The purpose of this training bulletin is to inform deputies and/or staff members about the
key principles and enforcement guidelines related to California Senate Bill 902 (SB 902),
which amended California Penal Code Section 29805 to add persons convicted of
specific misdemeanor offenses under PC 597 to the list of persons prohibited from
possessing firearms within 10 years of their conviction. This prohibition aims to enhance
public safety by restricting firearm access for individuals convicted of certain crimes.
Key Principles of SB 902
Offenses Covered: Effective January 1, 2025, SB 902 modified subsection (g) of
Penal Code 29805 to read as follows:
(g) An
