The Kern County Sheriff’s Office is committed to work in partnership with our community to enhance the safety, security, and quality of life for the residents and visitors of Kern County through professional public safety services. California Assembly Bill 2739 Effective January 1, 2025, AB 2739 enacts laws under California Penal Code Sections 26110 and 26395 that make weapons seized pursuant to California Penal Code Sections 26350 and 25850 subject to the forfeiture and destruction processes covered in California Penal Code Sections 18000 and 18005. In essence, the amended laws state that a weapon seized for a violation of PC 26350 (Openly carrying an unloaded firearm in various specified locations) and PC 25850 (Carrying a loaded firearm in specified locations) are deemed a nuisance and can be seized and destroyed pursuant to PC 18000 and PC 18005. Personnel who seize firearms pursuant to these statutes shall follow KCSOPPM J-1800.
