DONNY YOUNGBLOOD 1350 Norris Road, Bakersfield, California 93308-2231 Sheriff-Coroner Telephone (661) 391-7500 TRAINING BULLETIN ISSUE: 25-22 DATE: May 2, 2025 Senate Bill 690 and Amended Penal Code 803.7 – Domestic Violence Effective January 1, 2025, in response to Senate Bill 690, the following changes are now in effect:  Under the amended Penal Code 803.7, the statute of limitations for infliction of corporal injury resulting in a traumatic condition (PC 273.5) has been extended from five years to seven years.  This applies to crimes committed on or after January 1, 2025, and to crimes committed before that date if the previous statute of limitations has not yet expired.  Penalties for PC 273.5 remain unchanged. Personnel shall ensure compliance with these changes and document incidents thoroughly to support potential long-term prosecution. All sworn personnel of the Deputy Sheriff and Park Ranger ranks are required to review and acknowledge this training bulletin and its contents no later than June 2, 2025.
