UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT EFFECTIVE DATE: 02/01/96 STANDARD NO. 049 REVISED: 07/08/21 REPLACES: SOP Uniforms and Equipment 21-02.1-7 – Rev.01/01/03; Rev.12/13/11; Rev. 02/05/18 OBJECTIVE: To standardize the overall appearance of all sworn officers. The police uniform is distinctive in nature, as it provides for both a neat and professional appearance, while drawing attention to the Department and its personnel. POLICY: It is the policy of the Homestead Police Department (HPD) that all personnel shall wear the uniform with the appropriate pride and dignity becoming a representative of the City. The uniform shall at all times be neat, clean and in conformance with the below standards. SCOPE: All employees of this Department shall be governed by the procedures set forth below, unless excluded by their respective supervisor due to the nature of the assignment. I. UNIFORM CLASSES AND EQUIPMENT: A. Class A - Sworn Formal Uniform: Consists of issued: blue long-sleeve shirt, tie, blue uniform pants, corfram shoes, black socks, 8-point black hat, and duty belt with authorized accessories. 1. Required when participating in formal occasions (i.e. Honor Guard details, funerals, or civic functions). 2. Female officers will wear the black crossover tie. 3. Male officers will wear a black tie. B. Class B - Sworn Uniform: Consists of blue short-sleeve shirt with open collar, blue uniform pants, black authorized footwear, black socks, and issued duty belt with authorized accessories. 1. Authorized for all uniformed assignments, including corrections officers, other than formal occasions. 2. The Canine Unit will wear the Class B short-sleeve green polo shirt with badge, green BDU style pants, and issued duty belt with authorized accessories. 3. Police Reserve Officers will wear the Class B uniform, and will be equipped as officers performing like functions. 4. Black T-Shirts or undershirts may be visible when wearing the uniform shirt. C. Class C - Honor Guard Uniform: Consists of the Class A uniform with the following additions: Uniforms and Equipment – SOP# 049 1. 8-point Black hat with braid and hat badge. 2. Citation cord (white or black, as appropriate). 3. Ascot (as appropriate). 4. Silver or gold buttons affixed to shirt. 5. Only departmental Honor Guard members are authorize to wear this uniform for when participating in an official Honor Guard activity. D. Class D - Communications Center Police Dispatcher and Complaint Officer Uniform: Consists of the light-blue, short-sleeve polo shirt, blue Class B uniform pants, black shoes and black socks. E. Class E - Code Compliance Officers Uniform: Consists of the gray long- or short-sleeve polo shirt, blue Class B uniform pants, black shoes and black socks. F. Class F - Sworn Uniform: Consists of navy blue short-sleeve shirt with open collar (HPD shoulder patches sewn on each sleeve, agency badge with badge number sewn on the left chest with the rank and name on the right chest), blue uniform pants, black authorized footwear, black socks, and nylon duty belt with authorized accessories. 1. Authorized for all uniformed assignments, including corrections officers, other than formal occasions. 2. Police Reserve Officers may wear the Class F uniform, and will be equipped as officers performing like functions. 3. Black T-Shirts or undershirts may be visible when wearing the uniform shirt. 4. Rank will be worn to the same standards as the Class B uniform. Chevrons for sergeants will be sewn on the sleeves and lieutenants and above will wear their metal rank insignia on each side of the front of the shirt’s collar.
