SUBJECT: TRAINING UPON PR OMOTION
I. PURPOSE : The purpose of this standard operating procedure is to define the guidelines for
training upon promotion.
II. SCOPE : This procedure shall apply to all Sheriff's Office sworn personnel below the rank of
captain .
III. DISCUSSION : This program is intended to be a well-designed and admin istered training
program that will benefit the individual and the Sheriff's Office . The program will promote
product ive, efficient, and effective job performance training and improve individual job
satisfaction.
IV. PROCEDURE :
* A. Training upon promotion is a mandatory program administered by the Training Division
and shall consist of , but is not limited to, instruction such as:
1. Command Staff's Philosophy of Leadership .
2. Interpersonal Skills Development .
* 3. Annual Performance Review Training .
4. Leadership Training .
5. Disciplinary Procedures .
6. Payroll .
* 7. Report /Document Review and Editing .
8. Incident Command.
9. Supervisory Accountability.
* B. The curriculum shall be evaluated annu ally an d updated or modified as needed by the
Training Division .
C. The Training Division shall be responsible for coordinating each class , assigning an
instructor , and notifying personnel scheduled to attend.
D. The Training Division shall maintain less on pl ans, attendance records, and evaluations
for each cl ass.
* E. Training should be provided that is commensurate with the new duties and should take
place prior to promotion, if possible, or otherwise within the first year following
promotion.
