I. UNIT REPORTS
A. Background: The Strategic Intelligence Unit is responsible for providing narrative and statistical data
concerning Unit operations, arrests, seizures and investigations. An effective reporting process is
dependent upon accurate accumulation of information regarding the productivity of personnel.
B. Detectives’ Notebooks: Each detective in the Unit will maintain a notebook. This notebook will contain a
summary of the detective’s activities on a daily basis. The notebook shall include, but not be limited to,
such things as:
1. Investigations initiated.
2. Arrests made.
3. CI contacts made.
4. Warrants obtained.
5. Trips to court, deposition and profiles.
6. Any other noteworthy items.
7. Receipts and disbursements of investigative funds.
8. Compilation of total hours worked.
C. Monthly Report: It shall be the responsibility of the Sergeant to prepare a Monthly Report which will be
forwarded to the Chief of Police via the Division Commander. The report will include, but not be limited
to:
1. All cases worked.
2. Search Warrants obtained.
3. Arrests and arrest warrants obtained.
4. Seizures of property and narcotics.
5. Arrests and other statistics.
6. A narrative of any other information of interest.
7. Statistical monthly reports related to performance measures, outlined in the Community
Redevelopment Agency (CRA) regarding the Strategic Intelligence Unit (S.I.U.) productivity.
D. Goals and Objectives: The Chief of Police, Division Commander, and the Strategic Intelligence Unit
Sergeant, will annually, as part of the Unit’s strategic plan, outline the goals and objectives relating to
street-level, narcotics, racketeering and organized criminal activities. These goals should be realistic and in
keeping with the resources of our department. These shall be measurable and reviewed on a recurring
basis throughout the year. Memorandums shall be addressed to the Chief of Police and reviewed by each
member of the Unit.
