PURPOSE: This Order identifies the Department’s employee support services program. II. POLICY: The Gainesville Police Department shall maintain an Employee Support Services Program through which members may obtain information regarding benefits and services offered and/or provided by the City of Gainesville and the Department. [CALEA 22.1.4] III. DEFINITION: Employee Support Services Program: A program that supplies information and referrals regarding the benefits and services provided to Department members. IV. PROCEDURE: A. Management Responsibility: The Department’s Personnel Unit shall be responsible for administering the Department’s Employee Support Services Program. B. Services: The Personnel Unit shall maintain a list of the services and their provisions that are provided by the Department and the City of Gainesville, some of which are listed below: 1. Leave Provisions (e.g., Family and Medical Leave Act), see G.O. 22.2; 2. Workers’ Compensation (for on-the-job injuries); 3. Administrative Police Officer Program; 4. Tuition Reimbursement Program; 5. Health Insurance; 6. City Flex Plan Options (dental, vision, child care, life/disability insurance, and other options) 7. Deferred Compensation Options 1 Scope: All Department Members\n\n--- Page 2 ---\n\n8. Pension (and survivor benefits); 9. Psychological Services (or Employee Assistance Program, see G.O. 22.7); 10. Member Death/Injury Support Services (G.O. 55.3). C. Implementation: In fulfilling its responsibility regarding the Employee Support Services Program, the Personnel Division shall perform one or more of the following tasks: 1. Provide information regarding the benefit or service, 2. Procure the benefit, 3. Perform the service, 4. Coordinate with another Departmental or City unit to procure the benefit or perform the service, 5. Refer the member to the appropriate City or Department unit administering the benefit or service. D. Supervisory Referral: Supervisors should direct an employee under his or her supervision to the Personnel Division for more information when the employee’s personal situation indicates that he/she may benefit from one or more of the available services.
