PURPOSE: This Order delineates and defines the Department’s Protective Services Plan. II. POLICY: The Gainesville Police Department shall provide increased security, escort, and/or special protection to dignitaries, political figures, or other individuals when a danger exists for that person because of the person’s status or predicament. The Gainesville Police Department shall cooperate and coordinate operations with the United States Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies involved in V.I.P protection. [CALEA 46.2.6] III. DEFINITION: V.I.P.: A "very important person," dignitary, famous personality, notorious person, or any other person in need of special security. IV. PROCEDURE: A. Administration: i. Command: Protective service operations shall be under the command of the Patrol Support Bureau Commander. ii. Requests: Requests for special protective services shall be directed to the Patrol Support Bureau Commander. B. Responsibility: The Patrol Support Bureau Commander or designee shall be responsible for planning, supervising, and coordinating special protective service operations, including: 1. Coordinating with representatives of those requiring the protective services; 2. Providing equipment such as vehicles, weapons or body armor needs; 3. Establishing travel routes and alternatives; 4. Gathering intelligence via conducting advanced inspection of travel route(s), locales, sites, buildings and/or structures; 5. Coordinating activities with other Departmental units and any other agencies involved in the protective detail; 6. Identifying emergency first aid, ambulance, and medical facilities;\n\n--- Page 2 ---\n\nGAINESVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT GENERAL ORDER 7. Ensuring communications, including radio and telephone facilities, are adequate for anticipated needs; 8. Ensuring that personnel assigned to the detail are identified by a security pin or badge. Temporary reassignments from various Departmental Bureaus may be necessary to adequately accomplish these details. C.
