Policy 815Fremont Police Department Call Sign Designators 815.1 PURPOSE AND SCOPE To provide effective radio communications between individual units and the Police Dispatch Center, it is critical to establish Radio Call Sign Designators that are in compliance with the Zone Patrol System. All employees utilizing the police communications radio system will adhere to using the appropriate designator for their current assignment at the time of use of the system. Any requests for new call sign designators should be directed to the Communications Manager. 815.2 PATROL Patrol Units will be designated as follows: 1.The first character of the call sign identifies the current zone where the unit is assigned 1,2,3 for Fremont and 4,5,6 for Union City. 2.The second character denotes the shift the unit is assigned - A,-Midnight Shift, X-Day Shift, O-Swing Shift. 3.The third character (digit) will denote the individual unit. "A" Team Units will be designated by odd numbers - 1, 3, 5, etc. "B" Team Units will be designated by even numbers - 2, 4, 6, etc. (a)EXAMPLES 1.1A3 - Zone 1, Mid Shift, A Team 2.1X2 - Zone 1, Day Shift, B Team 3.1O5 - Zone 1, Swing Shift, A Team 4.3A3 - Zone 3, Midnight Shift, A Team 4.Community Service Units will use the same designator as Patrol Units, with the third character starting with 21 indicating a CSO Unit. (a)Odd numbers will designate CSO units assigned to "A" Team, even numbers will designate CSO units assigned to the "B" Team 5.Crime Scene Investigators will utilize the same designator system as Patrol Units, with the third character being 16, 17, 18, or 19 indicating a Crime Scene Unit. 6.Canine Units will add a "K" as the second character of the call sign, indicating a Canine Unit with the appropriate odd number for "A" Team and even number for "B" Team assignment, for example, "1K2" for the Canine Unit assigned to Zone 1 on the B Team. 7.All Patrol personnel assigned to special details and not available for normal zone assignments shall utilize the same designator as Patrol Units, with the first character starting with a "7" indicating a Special Assignment Unit. 8.Patrol Lieutenants will be designated by assignment and team as: (a)L20 as Patrol Administrative Lieutenant (b)L21 as Day Shift "A" Team Copyright Lexipol, LLC 2025/10/08, All Rights Reserved. (a)Midnight shift "A" Team will have designators of S-11, S-13, S-15, S17, etc. (b)Midnight shift "B" Team will have designators of S-12, S-14, S-16, S-18, etc. (c)Day Shift will have designators of S21, S23, S25 and S27 etc. for "A" Team and S22, S24, S26, S28, etc. for "B" Team. (d)Swing Shift will have S31, S33, S35, S37, etc. for "A" Team and S32, S34, S36, S38, etc. for "B" Team. 10.The Traffic Units will be designated as follows: (a)T1-Traffic Lieutenant (b)T2 Adjutant Sergeant "B" Team (c)T3 Adjutant Sergeant "A" team (d)T4 through T20 Traffic units (following odd numbers for "A" Team assignment and even numbers for "B" team assignments. (e)T21 through T25 designating Traffic Community Service Officers, also following odd numbers for "A" Team assignment and even numbers for "B" Team assignment. 11.Reserve Officers (while on duty) will be designated as 8R10 through 8R19 for level 1 Reserve Officers and 8R20 through 8R29 for level 2 Reserve Officers. 12.The Mobile Evaluation Team will use designators MET1 - MET4 13.School Resource Officers (SRO) will be designated as follows: (a)6J10 will be the sergeant who supervises the SROs.
