Policy 211Fremont Police Department Training of Newly-Appointed Sergeants and Lieutenants 211.1 PURPOSE AND SCOPE The purpose of this policy is to ensure that newly-appointed sergeants and lieutenants have been trained in their assigned duties and to ensure that they have time to adjust to their new role. All newly-appointed sergeants will receive a minimum of three weeks training prior to being assigned to a position. All newly-appointed lieutenants will receive a minimum of two weeks of training prior to being assigned to a position. 211.2 TRAINING PROCEDURES (a)All newly-appointed sergeants will be assigned to a selected field sergeant for training purposes. 1.Management staff will select the supervisory training sergeant based on the individual's job knowledge, supervisory ability, training ability, willingness to participate, and dedication to the police profession and the Fremont Police Department. 2.The supervisory training sergeant will use the sergeant Field Training outline (refer to the link below) as a guide to the new sergeant's training. 3.The supervisory training sergeant will complete weekly evaluations on the new sergeant and forward the evaluations to the Division Commander, via Chain of Command. 4.Copies of the evaluations will be forwarded to the watch commander who will supervise the new sergeant during his/her probationary period. (b)All newly-appointed lieutenants will be assigned to a selected field lieutenant for training purposes. 1.Management staff will select the training lieutenant based on the individual's job knowledge, management ability, training ability, and dedication to the police profession and the Fremont Police Department. 2.The training lieutenant will use the Patrol Lieutenant Transitional Training outline (refer to the link below) as a guide to the new lieutenant's training. 3.The training lieutenant will complete a final evaluation on the new lieutenant and forward the evaluation to the Division Commander.
