STANDARDS: 11 PAGES: 2 CONTENTS This order contains the following numbered sections: I. Rank Structure II. Organizational Breakdown, Responsibilities of Bureaus/Units II. Organizational Chart PURPOSE To establish the organizational structure of the department and the responsibilities of the various bureaus and units of which it is comprised. SCOPE This general order shall apply to all Fort Myers Police Department personnel. SECTION I: RANK STRUCTURE The rank structure of the police department shall be as follows: 1. Chief 2. Deputy Chief 3. Chief of Staff 4. Captain 5. Lieutenant 6. Sergeant 7. Patrol Officer/Detective 8. Civilian SECTION II: ORGANIZATIONAL BREAKDOWN (C.A.L.E.A. 11.1.1) The organizational structure of the Fort Myers Police Department is divided into the following Bureaus: Patrol Operations, Special Operations, Investigative Services, Administrative Services, Community Engagement, Professional Standards. Each Bureau is commanded by a Captain. The Bureau Commanders will be directly responsible to a Deputy Chief or Chief of Police. Each Bureau also contains divisions, sections, and other subunits, broken down as follows: A. Patrol Operations Bureau Responsibilities: Commanded by a Captain who is responsible for around the clock police operations to include, patrol, crime prevention/suppression, traffic enforcement, crash investigations and city ordinance violations. G.O. 1.1 Organizational Structure 1 of 3 11/09/2023\n\n--- Page 2 ---\n\n1. Patrol Areas: The City of Fort Myers is divided into four (4) Districts, each containing two zones. Districts are determined by population and calls for services. B. Investigative Services Bureau Responsibilities: Commanded by a Captain and is responsible for follow-up criminal investigations and special police services. The Bureau includes the Detective Division, Special Enforcement Division, Group Violence Intervention Division, Juvenile Delinquency Initiative, Task Force Officers, Victims Advocate and the Crime Scene Unit. C. Special Operations Bureau Responsibilities: Commanded by a Captain and is responsible for managing the Criminal Intelligence, Traffic Homicide Unit, K-9 Unit, Bike Unit, Marine Unit, SWAT Team, Mobile Field Force, Crisis Negotiators and the Special Events Unit (Large Gathering/Events, Downtown River District, Parades, Dignitary Protection, and assigned special events/activities). D. Administrative Services Bureau Responsibilities: Commanded by a Captain who is responsible for managing all support services functions. The Bureau includes the Records Division, Communications Division, Property and Evidence Section, Facilities Maintenance and custodian services, Finance/Budget Office, Employee wellness, Social Services, Supply and Logistics and Fleet. E. Community Engagement Bureau Responsibilities: Commanded by a Captain who is responsible for managing the Community Relations Division, School Resource Officer Unit (SRO), Crime Prevention, Police Athletic League (PAL), Public Housing Unit, Housing Outreach and Treatment Team, G.R.A.M.P.A. Cops, Police Explores, Volunteers, Chaplains, and the Citizen Police Academy. F. Professional Standards Bureau Responsibilities: Commanded by a Captain who is responsible for managing the Training Division, Internal Affairs Section, Inspections Section, Accreditation Unit, Police Trainees and Police Cadets. E. Deputy Chiefs: 1. Operations: Bureaus: (Patrol Operations, Special Operations, Investigations). 2. Administrative: Bureaus: (Professional Standards, Community Engagement, Administrative). F. Chief of Staff: Serves as the senior advisor/subject matter expert for the Chief of Police and is a member of senior executive Command Staff. G. Chief of Police: Personnel assigned to the Office of the Chief of Police report directly to the Chief of Police. These include the Deputy Chiefs, Chief of Staff, Legal Advisor, Internal Affairs Function, Public Information Office, Hiring & Recruitment Section, Grants, Senior Staff Assistant. SECTION III: ORGANIZATIONAL CHART Organizational Chart: Attached is the current organizational chart representing the staffing of the department.
