IMPOUNDED, RECOVERED, AND FOUND PROPERTY An appropriate receipt shall be prepared by an employee who comes into possession of impounded, recovered, or found property. All items shall be presented to a departmental facility or property officer as set forth in departmental directives. 3.210?????????????? PROPERTY OF DECEASED PERSONS When the nearest relative is present at the scene, items not required as court evidence may be released on authority of the lead investigator. Caution should be exercised in this regard as relinquished property may result in intra-family disputes. Appropriate property receipts shall be prepared whether or not the property is released at the scene. If property is relinquished at the scene, the receipt shall be endorsed by the individual who takes custody of the property. Investigators shall not release wills or other written documents that express the desires or commands of the deceased. These items shall be placed in the Property Bureau for proper disposition.
