1.71 0.30??????????????????????? INTRA-DEPARTMENTAL COMMUNICATIONS
The Department maintains an INTR-departmental
communication network to provide rapid and efficient police
response and to facilitate management control. All methods of
departmental communication, including radio, telephone;
computer terminals and mail are reserved for official business
only.
1.720????????????????????????????? RECORDS
Records are maintained in compliance with statutes, as a
public service, as an investigative and administrative aid and
to provide statistical data. Department records are
confidential. Upon approval, criminal records and arrest
information may be released to qualified agencies. In addition,
the Department will provide certain crime traffic reports to
authorized persons.
1.730????????????????????????????? PROPERTY
The Department will safeguard and properly dispose of all
property, which comes into custody. Efforts will be made to
maintain property in the same condition as received and into

preserve the evidentiary integrity of property, which has been
received for possible court presentation. Unless property is
contraband or must be presented into evidence, reasonable
efforts will be made to ensure return to the rightful owner.
Property, which cannot be returned to the rightful owner, will
be disposed of as provided by law.
1.740????????????????????????????? TRANSPORTATION
In the highly mobile environment in which the Department
operates, Vehicular transportation is essential and because of
extensive use is an expensive Item in the departmental budget.
The essential function of the transportation system is to
provide the proper type of vehicle at the time and place
needed. Through processes of inspection, maintenance and
repair, vehicles are? kept in such condition as to be capable of
safe performance and operation consistent with assigned use.
Law enforcement situations arise frequently and unexpectedly,
therefore vehicles must be capable of performance greater that
that required for transportation alone. The most effective use
of vehicle is achieved by a system of assignment and rotation.
1.745????????????????????????????? FLEET SYSTEM
Employees have a duty to operate vehicles in a legal safe and
courteous manner. This responsibility is great in view of the
tactical situation and traffic condition in which departmental
vehicles are operated. Vehicle safety involves the
establishment of standards, vehicles testing and selection,
regular inspections preventive maintenance and defensive
driving.
Defensive driving is a matter of personal practice which
involves proper motivation and the development of positive
mental attitude toward driving habits are reinforced through
roll-call training defensive driving and driver-training courses,
supervision and discipline.
