EL DORADO COUNTY PROBATION DEPARTMENT MEMORANDUM TO: All Deputy Probation Officers-Institutions FROM: Brian Richart, Chief Probation Officer DATE: RE: January 8, 2016 Standing Order: Load Bearing Vests- JDF Probation Officers This Standing Order authorizes the use of a Load Bearing Vest while on duty in a Juvenile Detention Facility or related assignment, and will remain in effect until related Policy/Procedures are updated. Officers are authorized to purchase a vest on their own or have the department provide one subject to available funds. JDF Officers have the option to utilize a Richard Cowell Tactical Patrol Vest or a 5.11 Tactical VTAC LBE Vest with Modular Webbing (MOLLE) style vest. Officers choosing the Richard Cowell vest must verify the pouch placement does not conflict with appropriate vest use as the pouches for this specific vest are permanently affixed. The Richard Cowell vest template can be viewed at www.richardcowell.com (click "Patrol Vest" and then "download vest template"). Officers choosing to use a 5.11 Tactical MOLLE style vest may purchase the vest at any vendor offering the product (i.e. Galls or L.A. Police Gear, etc.) and must only purchase approved MOLLE pouches to attach to the vest. The approved MOLLE style pouches are as follows: 5.11 Tactical: VTAC Nylon Radio Pouch VTAC Nylon Cuff Case Tactical Disposable Glove Pouch 58718 58721 50058 Protech Tactical: TP13 TP14 Tactical Tailor: 10093-2 Admin Pouch MK3/MK4 Aerosol Pouch Flashlight Pouch Benchmade Knives: 7 Hook Rescue Tool/Pouch Note: Additional MOLLE style pouches may be approved by the Superintendent. Both styles of vests must be black in color, and must have at a minimum, ID placards clearly identifying "PROBATION" on the front and back of the vest as well as a Velcro or Standard badge, all of which may be obtained through the respective Supervisor in each division. The vests may not be used to carry any safety equipment not currently authorized by the department, and shall not be utilized to carry a firearm. 84 [rvsd 2/04]
