All safety equipment shall be kept in the probation officer’s equipment locker at all times when not in use. The only exception is the charging of radio batteries, which may be located in the probation officer’s desk area when charging. The Chief Probation Officer may authorize concealment of the firearm and related equipment for undercover operations during a specific event and/or for a specific purpose. A probation officer shall not carry the firearm and related equipment when boarding an aircraft unless the Chief Probation Officer gives specific written approval. If such permission is given, the probation officer shall contact the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and local airport security department, and comply with all regulations as set forth by the TSA and the local jurisdiction. ARMED PROBATION OFFICERS Armed probation officers shall be armed while conducting supervision/enforcement activities. Probation officers attending meetings away from the office may be armed, but are not required to be armed, during non-enforcement related activities, i.e. SARB or school meetings. Probation officers conducting placement visits or assigned to a school campus may be, but are not required to be, armed. Armed probation officers shall use and wear department issued safety equipment when armed as follows: gun, holster, two extra magazines, magazine case, Conducted Electrical Weapon and holster (when applicable), body armor, OC spray, flashlight and radio.
