1 EDGE WOOD POLICE DEPARTMENT REGULATION REGULATION 700 – DEATH AND INJURY NOTIFICATIONS EFFECTIVE: 3/30/2023 DISTRIBUTION: ALL EMPLOYEES REVIEW RESPONSIBILITY: CHIEF OF POLICE ACCREDITATION CHAPTERS : NONE CHIEF OF POLICE: DEAN DESCHRYVER 700-1, DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY When any employee or retired employee is killed or seriously injured on or off duty, immediate verbal notification shall be made to the Chief of Police by the officer in charge. This shall be followed by An email no later than the end of the current tour of duty. Information shall include the date, location, cause, extent of injuries, and property damage. Serious injury in this instance means an injury that could result in death or disability. 700-2, NONSER IOUS INJURY In cases where an on-duty injury is other than of a serious nature, an incident report shall be submitted by the injured employee no later than at the end of the tour of duty on which the injury occurred, including all information requ ired abo ve. The incident report is in a ddition to those accident and sick reports otherwise required. In the event that the injured employee is not able to complete any of the required reports, the employee’s supervisor will be responsible for assuring all report s are completed. 700-3, NOTIFI CATION OF FAMILY The family of an employee injured or killed shall be notified immediately and in person by the officer in charge.
