EDGEWOOD POLICE DEPARTMENT REGULATION
REGULATION 600 – COMMUNICATIONS/CORRESPONDENCE

600-1, RESTRICTI ONS
Employees shall not:
a. Use Departmental supplies for private correspondence.
b. Send any correspondence out of the Department over their signature without permission of the Chief of Police .
c. Send Department -wide email messages to the established Department -wide address groups without permission
of a supervisor .
d. Use the City’s Internet, Intranet, or email system to access any site or send any material: *
i. That is sexually explicit, pornographic, or obscene;
ii. That may be see n as insulting, disruptive, offensive by other persons, or harmful to morale;
iii. That can be construed to be harassment or disparagement of others based on their sex, race, sexual
orientation, age, national origin, religious beliefs, or political beliefs; or
iv. That has the potential to cause the C ity public harm or disrepute.
* Excludes incidental access during an appro ved investigation, or solicitation, and distribution as covered in
current collective bargaining agreements or Florida Statutes.
600-2, FORWARD ING COMMUNICATIONS TO HIGHER COMMANDS
An employee receiving a communication from a subordinate directed to a higher command shall endorse it with a written
recommendation and forward it to the next higher command level.
600-3, DEPARTMENT ADDRESS (PRIVATE USE OF)
Employees shall not use the Department as a mailing address for private purposes. An exception to this is that the
Department address may be used for motor vehicle registration.
600-4, RADIO DISCIPLINE
All employees of the Department operating any part of the police radio system s hall strictly observe all applicable
Departmental or Federal Communications Com mission rules and regulations.
600-5, SECURITY OF CRIMINAL HISTORY DATA
Criminal history data obtained from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s (FDLE) Florida Crime I nformation
Computer (FCIC) and data from the National Crime Information Computer (NCIC) is for law enforcement use only and may
not be used for other purposes. Employees found in violation of FCIC/NCIC access re striction s may be subject to
disciplinary act ion up to and including termination. Other Law Enforcement Use Only Data such as Internal Mug Shot
System, LERMS , DAVID (Driver and Vehicle Information Database), Auto Track, LInX (Law Enforcement Information
Exchange), ELVIS (Electronic License and Vehicl e Information System), Automated License Plate Recognition System,
FINDER , and Tiburon shall only be used for law enforcement use only and may not be used for other purposes.
Dissemination of such information ou tside the Department is restricted to represe ntatives of law enforcement agencies.
