GENERAL ORDER # 50.1
UNIFORM, PERSONAL APPEARANCE, AND GROOMING STANDARDS
Revision Date: March 23, 2023
The purpose of this General Order is to establish official department appearance, grooming, and
uniform standards for uniformed and non -uniformed members. The appearance and grooming
of department members can be perceived by the public as a direct reflecti on of professionalism
and the status of the department.
This order consists of the following numbered sections:

I. PROCEDURES
A. Uniform Issue
Members shall be issued uniforms and equipment required for their job position
according to the list maintained by the Supply Custodian .
1. Newly -hired, promoted members or members needing to exchange
equipment shall report to the Supply Custodian to obtain and sign for the
issue of uniforms and equipment.
2. The member is responsible for requesting replacement of worn or
damaged uniforms and equipment.
3. In an effort to properly identify all sworn members of the agency, each
sworn employee shall be issued a name plate , which shall be prominently
displayed centered above the right pocket (member perspective) while
wearing the Class A , Class B , or Class C uniform . If the member is wearing
the Patrolling Uniform, a name patch will be readily visible .
B. Headgear
1. Members issued a dress cap style hat may wear it during formal
ceremonies while in a Class A uniform.
2. Agency issued baseball style hats may be worn while in uniform. Baseball
style hats shall not be worn with the Class A uniform and never during any
formal ceremony.

1. The badge shall be worn on the left side of the uniform shirt, above the
pocket (Class A , B, & C). When an outer garment such as a jacket , raincoat ,
or traffic vest is worn, and the garment is equipped with a reinforced strap
for wearing a badge, the badge may be worn on the outer garment. A soft
badge may be stitched on the outer garment in lieu of the traditional
badge. A department badge must be visible when taki ng law enforcement
action.
2. Officers shall wear silver -toned badges. Sergeants and above shall wear
gold -toned badges.
II. UNIFORMED SWORN
A. Class “A” Uniform for Sworn/Certified Members: The Class “A” uniform shall
consist of the standard long -sleeve uniform shirt, standard uniform trousers, and
standard uniform tie (black) with the issued tie tack. The standard uniform hat
with hat badge will be worn for formal occasions or when designated by the
Chief of Police. Black polished boots or Corfam shoes shall be worn . All insignia,
including collar brass , shall be properly affixed as prescribed.
1. Members shall display collar insignia designated as “ EPD” on the both
collar s one inch (1") below and parallel to the top seam and one -half inch
(1/2") to the rear of the front seam.
2. The standard uniform tie tack shall be centered on the tie and in line with
the buttons on the p ocket epaulets.
3. Members are authorized to wear certain specialty pins on their uniform
that denote extra training or responsibilities within the department.
These pins shall be worn centered above the name plate. The following
pins are authorized:
a. Crisis Intervention Team (CIT)
b. Field Training Officer (FTO)
c. Peer Support Officer (PSO)
d. Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA)
e. Flag of the United States of America
f. Insignia from any U.S. branch of the military
g. Any other pin approved by the Chief of Police
4. Departme nt awards and those awards issued by other law enforcement
agencies may be worn on the left breast pocket flap, centered with the
top edge parallel to and 3/16 of an inch below the top edge of the
pocket.
5. Agency insignia shall be silver for members below the rank of sergeant
and gold for members the rank of sergeant and above.
6. Longevity Insignia (Hash Mark) :
a. One (1) hash mark for every four (4) total full -time years of
service in law enf orcement . Any break in employment shall not
establish a new date computing longevity.

b. Longevity insignia shall be embroidered on the left sleeve of the
Class “A” uniform shirt one quarter inch (1/4") right side to touch
sleeve crease and angles toward seam back to cuff. Insignia
colors shall be gold .
B. Class “B” Uniform: The Class “B” uniform shall consist of the standard long -
sleeve uniform shirt, standard uniform trousers, without the standard uniform
tie.
