Police Department Policy

660 - FORFEITURES

Delray Beach Police Department

Policy Text
I. POLICY The Delray Beach Police Department has established guidelines for the seizure and forfeiture of vehicles, vessels, aircraft, money, and/or property pursuant to Florida Contraband Forfeiture Act Sections 932.701-932.7062. The Delray Beach Police Department acknowledges that law enforcement is the principal objective of asset forfeiture. The potential for obtaining revenues from forfeitures must not jeopardize fundamental considerations such as public safety, the safety of law enforcement officers, investigation and prosecution of criminal activity, and due process rights of individuals as provided by law. The employment, salary, promotion, or other compensation of a law enforcement officer or attorney will not depend on obtaining a quota of seizures. The Chief of Police or Police Legal Advisor will be the final authority on what will or will not be forfeited.
