Policy Delano Police Department 328 Delano PD Policy Manual Major Incident Notification 328.1 PURPOSE AND SCOPE The purpose of this policy is to provide guidance to members of this department in determining when, how and to whom notification of major incidents should be made. 328.2 DEFINITIONS Management Team Member (MTM): A Division Commander or Acting Division Commander. Watch Commander (WC): The highest ranking designated supervisor for a patrol shift. Notification Roster: A list, in a chain of command order, to be notified pursuant to this policy. This list will be comprised of the watch commander up to the mayor of the City. Line Employee: Any patrol officer or corporal (when not designated as the watch commander). Professional Staff: Any non-sworn employee, to include dispatchers, community service officers, police services technicians, evidence custodian, code enforcement officer, records clerks, or any other department employee not listed. 328.3 MINIMUM CRITERIA FOR NOTIFICATION Most situations where the media show a strong interest are also of interest to the Chief of Police and the affected Division Commander. The following list of incident types is provided as a guide for notification and is not intended to be all inclusive: • Homicides / unexplained or unattended deaths. • Traffic accidents with fatalities or life-threatening injuries. • Officer-involved shooting - on or off duty (see Officer-Involved Shootings and Deaths Policy for special notifications) • Significant injury or death to any City of Delano employee - on or off duty. • Death of a City of Delano employee. • An arrest of a City of Delano employee. • Aircraft crash. • Chemical spills or other incidents that may require EOC activation. • Any incident in or outside our jurisdiction that results in any disruption of normal city business, to include but not limited to, rerouting of traffic, either into or out of the city of Delano, any action that results any City of Delano employee to become involved in or provide assistance to any outside agency, such as a fatal traffic collisions on the freeway. • In-custody deaths.
