Policy Delano Police Department 1015 Delano PD Policy Manual Commendations and Awards 1015.1 PURPOSE AND SCOPE This policy provides general guidelines for recognizing commendable or meritorious acts of members of the Delano Police Department and individuals from the community. 1015.1.1 POLICY It shall be the policy of this Department to provide awards and recognition to all Departmental employees, or citizens recommended. 1015.2 POLICY It is the policy of the Delano Police Department to recognize and acknowledge exceptional individual or group achievements, performance, proficiency, heroism and service of its members and individuals from the community through commendations and awards. 1015.3 COMMENDATIONS Commendations for members of the Department or for individuals from the community may be initiated by any department member or by any person from the community. 1015.3.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES All requests for awards and recognition shall be verified by the employee's supervisor before forwarding such request to the Chief of Police. Any incomplete or unsubstantiated requests shall be returned by the supervisor for clarification or denial by the supervisor. Once approved, the DPD Form 1030 and/or 1030A shall be forwarded to the Human Resource Management Department of the City for inclusion into the Department member's personnel file. The Awards Committee shall be responsible for the below duties as assigned: A. Convene at the direction of the Chief of Police; B. Announce the call for awards and recognition at the direction of the Chief of Police; C. Accept the nominations for commendable action awards and recommendations; D. Make recommendations to the Chief of Police regarding commendable action awards; E. Prepare awards for Chief of Police; F. Schedule, plan, or otherwise facilitate the yearly awards program; and, G. Participate in the awards program. 1015.3.2 WEARING OF AWARDS AND RIBBONS Departmental staff may wear only authorized awards and ribbons with either their long sleeve or short sleeve uniform shirt however, mandatory wearing of these awards and ribbons shall only be at the direction of the Chief of Police for events he/she have determine to warrant such wearing of awards and ribbons.
