I. PURPOSE: The Davie Police Department recognizes that the use of confidential informants can be a very successful investigative tool that may lead to the identification, arrest and prosecution of those involved in illegal activities. Individuals who furnish information expect that their identities will not be disclosed and therefore detailed documentation and administrative control is required. The following procedures will provide uniformity, accountability and protection to personnel, and the Davie Police Department in official actions with confidential informants. This general order is to establish procedures for the recruitment, control and use of confidential informants in accordance with Florida Statutes.
