CHAPTER 2
Schedules & Assignment
I.
Schedules
A. Each Unit Sergeant is responsible for the scheduling and assignment for the members
under their command.
B. While most unit members will work a set schedule, the schedule is subject to change due
to operational needs.
C. Component schedules shall be posted in the Schedules folder on the Department shared
drive that may be accessed by other units and components.
D. The Unit Sergeant shall update the schedules with leave requests, training dates, or other
changes to scheduling as soon as feasible.
II.
Call Out Procedures
Special Operations units subject to call out shall follow procedures as outlined in General
Order 30 and their chapter of this SOP.
III. Days Off and Leave Requests
A. Regular days off for members are determined by their assigned work schedule during any
14-day period.
B. Members requesting additional time off (i.e., annual leave, compensatory time, etc.) shall
submit their request to their respective unit sergeant.
1. The request shall be in writing and written on the department Request for Leave form.
2. Time off, other than regular days off, shall be granted by the respective unit sergeant
based upon the workload requirements of the unit.
3. Members are encouraged to request annual leave far in advance to ensure proper
scheduling of unit.
4. Failure to plan for annual leave may result in the denial of time off requested.
C.
Cancellation of any time off for any reason should be submitted in writing on a Leave
Request form to the Unit Sergeant.
IV. Meal Period and Breaks
A. Sworn members are entitled to one meal period (not to exceed 40 minutes, including travel
time) and two breaks (not to exceed 15 minutes each).

B. Members shall be subject to call during meal periods and breaks; however, every effort
will be made to allow members to remain on their meal period and breaks for the allotted
time.
C.
Members shall not take a meal break that begins or includes any part of their last hour of
work during the shift.
V.
Roll Call/Briefing Room Procedures
Members are encouraged to attend Patrol roll call briefings to foster cooperation and share
information between components. Roll call is held in the briefing room at the onset of each
Patrol shift and is conducted by the Shift Lieutenant and/or Squad Sergeant.
