II. VICTIM ADVOCATE PURPOSE: In its own best interest, the Coconut Creek Police Department (CCPD) has a role to play in victim/witness assistance; a role that no other component of the criminal justice system can effectively duplicate. The purpose of this procedure is to establish guidelines for assisting victims/witnesses of crimes and to ensure compliance with Florida State Statutes (FSSs) regarding victims/witnesses of crime. POLICY: It is the policy of CCPD to inform all victims and witnesses of the availability of victim/witness services in Broward County and attempt to provide services as needed to accommodate victims with disabilities or special needs. The agency is committed to the fair, compassionate, and dignified treatment of victims/witnesses. Agency personal shall adhere to the “Guidelines for Fair Treatment of Victims and Witnesses in the Criminal Justice System” and maintain confidentiality of victim/witness information in accordance with FSS.
