II. DISPOSAL PURPOSE: The purpose of this procedure is to establish guidelines for the Coconut Creek Police Department (CCPD) to adhere to when dealing with domestic animals and wildlife that pose a threat, are severely sick, or are seriously injured and compassion requires the animal to be relieved of suffering only when other dispositions are impractical. POLICY: CCPD shall comply with Florida State Statute (FSS) 828.05, Killing and injured or diseased domestic animal, federal and state laws, local ordinances, and the Florida Administrative Code (FAC) regarding the disposition of animals that might be taken into custody by or under the direction of CCPD. The destruction of an animal shall be for humanitarian reasons or to protect the officer or another person from imminent bodily harm. DEFINITIONS:
