I. RESPONSIBILITIES OF ALL II. DUTIES
SUPERVISORS
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this procedure is to establish the span of control and responsibilities of
the agency’s first line supervision.
POLICY:
It is the policy of the Coconut Creek Police Department (CCPD) to establish a clear span
of control and to ensure adequate response and supervision at particular types of calls.
The first line supervisor is a sergeant, section supervisor, or designated officer/employee
who is assigned the duties of an area supervisor. The first line supervisor’s span of
control may, on a day-to-day basis, increase to include other personnel assigned to his
or her service or work area, but not personnel assigned to another supervisor. Each
employee shall be accountable to only one (1) supervisor at any given time. A designated
first line supervisor shall be any person assigned to that position normally occupied by a
sergeant or section supervisor and shall have the responsibilities and authority described
in the procedure while acting in that capacity.
