SCOPE: This directive is applicable to all sworn employees.
POLICY: It is the policy of the Department that sworn employees engage in civil matters
only to the extent necessary to maintain peace. Sworn employees shall not participate in
the service of civil court orders unless required by law, judicial administrative orders, or as
permitted by this directive. Any questions regarding the legal process for civil matters
must be referred to a supervisor or addressed using the Florida Law Enforcement
Handbook and legal guidelines.
