I. POLICY It is the policy of the Aventura Police Department that Officers and employees shall operate assigned police department vehicles in the intended manner in obedience to all laws, ordinances, policies and procedures and that under all circumstances safety of the public is paramount and primary. The Police Department recognizes and acknowledges the fundamental duty of the department is the protection and safety of its citizens. This duty includes the obligation to attempt the apprehension of persons who endanger the public by taking flight to avoid prosecution. However, at times, the danger presented by the pursuit itself can exceed the public safety value of immediate apprehension. Under such circumstances, public safety is paramount and primary.
