I. POLICY It is the policy of the Aventura Police Department that Officers may use reasonable force and apply de-escalation techniques when necessary enforce the law. The use of force may range from verbal persuasion to lethal force. Employees are authorized to use only Department issued and approved lethal and less-than-lethal weapons. CALEA 4.1.1 An Officer, or non-sworn employee, who has used a lethal and/or less-than-lethal weapon, used on a subject regardless of duty status, must complete a RESPONSE TO RESISTANCE report and other appropriate reports. CALEA 4.2.1
