Department members in uniform must ensure that their hair does not extend below the top edge of the uniform collar when standing in a normal posture. If hair is longer, it should not extend beyond the bottom level of the uniform patch and may be worn up or secured in a tightly wrapped braid or ponytail. 1009.2.2 MUSTACHES A short and neatly trimmed mustache may be worn. All facial hair must be worn in a manner that reflects a professional business image on the department while in civilian attire and in uniform. Permission to wear beards may be withdrawn by the Chief of Police at any time. If authorized by the Chief of Police or designee, facial hair in the form of a neatly maintained and groomed beard or goatee must be uniform in length and not longer than half (1/2) of an inch. Facial hair may not be gathered in rubber bands or dyed an unnatural color. Members issued a gas mask or other safety equipment are responsible for insuring the facial hair allows for a proper seal. Members with facial hair are required to have a means of quickly shaving their facial hair while at work if exposure to chemical agents or other hazardous substances becomes likely.
