Explicación Simple

Si alguien es condenado a pagar una multa, el juez puede enviar a esa persona a la cárcel hasta que pague. Es como si tuvieras que hacer un castigo si no pagas lo que debes.

Es como cuando le prestas dinero a un amigo y le dices que no puede salir a jugar hasta que te devuelva lo que debe. Así, el juez asegura que la persona pague primero.

Imagina que Juan fue condenado a pagar una multa de 500 dólares por una infracción de tráfico. Si no tiene el dinero para pagarla, el juez puede decidir que Juan pase un tiempo en la cárcel hasta que consiga el dinero y pague.

RCW 10.70.010 - Commitment until fine and costs are paid When the defendant is adjudged to pay a fine and costs, the court shall order him to be committed to the custody of the sheriff until the fine and costs are paid or secured as provided by law. [Code 1881 § 1119; 1873 p 242 § 277; 1854 p 123 § 141; RRS § 2200.] RCW 10.70.020 - Mittimus upon sentence to imprisonment When any person shall be sentenced to be imprisoned in the penitentiary or county jail, the clerk of the court shall, as soon as may be, make out and deliver to the sheriff of the county, or his deputy, a transcript from the minutes of the court of such conviction and sentence, duly certified by such clerk, which shall be sufficient authority for such sheriff to execute the sentence, who shall execute it accordingly.
