El acuerdo sobre detenciones permite que un estado reclame a una persona detenida en otro estado. Así, si alguien comete un delito en Washington y está detenido en otro lugar, Washington puede pedir que lo devuelvan.

Es como cuando prestas un libro a un amigo, y luego necesitas que te lo devuelva porque alguien más quiere leerlo. El estado hace lo mismo con los prisioneros de otros estados.

RCW 9.100.010 - Agreement on detainers -- Text The agreement on detainers is hereby enacted into law and entered into by this state with all other jurisdictions legally joining therein in the form substantially as follows: RCW 9.100.020 - Appropriate court defined The phrase "appropriate court" as used in the agreement on detainers shall, with reference to the courts of this state, mean any court with criminal jurisdiction. RCW 9.100.030 - Courts, state and political subdivisions enjoined to enforce agreement All courts, departments, agencies, officers and employees of this state and its political subdivisions are hereby directed to enforce the agreement on detainers and to cooperate with one another and with other party states in enforcing the agreement and effectuating its purposes. RCW 9.100.040 - Escape -- Effect Escape from custody while in another state pursuant to the agreement on detainers shall constitute an offense against the laws of this state to the same extent and degree as an escape from the institution in which the prisoner was confined immediately prior to having been sent to another state pursuant to the provisions of the agreement on detainers and shall be punishable in the same manner as an escape from said institution. RCW 9.100.050 - Giving over inmate authorized It shall be lawful and mandatory upon the warden or other official in charge of a penal or correctional institution in this state to give over the person of any inmate thereof whenever so required by the operation of the agreement on detainers.
