Explicación Simple

Si un vehículo se descompone y no se puede separar de otro por seguridad, puedes remolcarlo más allá de lo normal. Solo necesitas llevarlo a un taller cercano, pero no más de 50 millas desde donde se descompuso.

Es como si tuvieras una bicicleta atada a una camioneta y se te pincha la llanta. Aunque no puedes separar las dos, puedes llevarlas juntas a la tienda de bicicletas más cercana.

Imagina que Juan está viajando por Virginia y su camioneta se descompone justo en la carretera. No puede separar la carga que lleva porque es peligrosa, así que llama a una grúa que lo remolca hasta el taller más cercano, que está a 30 millas de donde se detuvo.

Va. Code § 46.2-1153 - Permissible lengths of combination vehicles being towed in emergencies. In an emergency as provided in § 46.2-1149 , the towing of disabled vehicles which cannot be separated for safety, physical, or mechanical reasons and which exceed length limits established in Article 16 (§ 46.2-1112 et seq.) of this chapter, shall be permissible for the purpose of towing any such vehicle to the nearest facility which can make the necessary repairs but not more than fifty miles from the point such vehicle was disabled.
