Explicación Simple

Si alguien usa mentiras para robarte dinero o cosas, eso es un delito. Dependiendo de cuánto valga lo que robó, puede ir a la cárcel por varios años.

Es como si alguien se disfrazara de tu amigo para pedirte prestado tu videojuego y luego nunca te lo devolviera. Eso no solo es deshonesto, es ilegal.

Imagina que Juan se hace pasar por el dueño de un coche y convence a una persona para que le entregue el vehículo diciendo que lo necesita para un viaje. Después, Juan se escapa con el coche y nunca regresa. Esto es un caso de obtención fraudulenta de bienes.

SECTION 16-13-260. Obtaining property under false tokens or letters. A person who falsely and deceitfully obtains or gets into his hands or possession any money, goods, chattels, jewels, or other things of another person by color and means of any false token or counterfeit letter made in another person's name is guilty of a: (1) felony and, upon conviction, must be fined in the discretion of the court or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both, if the value of the property is ten thousand dollars or more; (2) felony and, upon conviction, must be fined in the discretion of the court or imprisoned not more than five years, or both, if the value of the property is more than two thousand dollars but less than ten thousand dollars; (3) misdemeanor triable in magistrates court or municipal court, notwithstanding the provisions of Sections 22-3-540, 22-3-545, 22-3-550, and 14-25-65, if the value of the property is two thousand dollars or less. Upon conviction, the person must be fined not more than one thousand dollars, or imprisoned not more than thirty days, or both.
