Explicación Simple

Si dejas tu auto en un taller y no lo recoges en 30 días, el taller debe avisar al DMV. Si no lo hace, pierde el derecho a cobrar por el servicio.

Es como si dejaras tu bicicleta en un taller de reparación. Si no la reclamas en un mes, el taller tiene que avisar a la ciudad para que no puedan cobrarte por el almacenamiento.

Ejemplo Práctico

María llevó su auto a un taller a reparar el motor. Después de 30 días sin reclamarlo, el taller, llamado 'Reparaciones Rápidas', debe informar al DMV que el auto no ha sido recogido. Si no lo hace, perderá el derecho a cobrarle a María por el almacenamiento.

Penalidades

Si no reportas el vehículo como no reclamado, pierdes todo derecho a cobrar por la grúa y el almacenamiento.

SECTION 56-19-840. Unclaimed vehicles in garages and certain other places to be reported; loss of storage lien for failure to report. A proprietor, an owner, or an operator of any towing company, storage facility, garage, or repair shop or any person who repairs or furnishes any material for the repair of a vehicle, where a vehicle remains unclaimed for a period of thirty days, must report the vehicle as unclaimed to the Department of Motor Vehicles within five days after the expiration of the thirty-day period. The report must be on a form prescribed by the department. The form may be submitted before the thirty-day period expires. A vehicle is considered "unclaimed" when the owner of the vehicle has not reclaimed it within thirty days after notification pursuant to Sections 29-15-10 and 56-5-5630. A person who fails to report a vehicle as unclaimed in accordance with this section forfeits all claims, liens, or costs associated with the towing and storage.
