El Departamento de Vehículos de Motor tiene que avisar a las personas sobre cosas importantes. Pueden hacerlo dándoles un aviso en persona o enviándolo por correo, y el aviso se considera entregado diez días después de enviarlo.

Es como cuando le dices a un amigo que lo invitas a una fiesta. Si se lo dices en persona, lo entiende de inmediato, pero si se lo envías por mensaje, él debe esperar un poco para responder.

Imagina que Juan olvidó renovar su licencia de conducir. El Departamento le envía un aviso por correo a su casa. Juan no se da cuenta de que el aviso llegó, pero diez días después, se considera que ya lo recibió, aunque no lo haya abierto.

SECTION 56-19-60. Method of giving notice; proof of service. Whenever the Department of Motor Vehicles is authorized or required to give any notice under this chapter or Chapter 21 of Title 16, unless a different method of giving such notice is otherwise expressly prescribed, such notice shall be given either by personal delivery thereof to the person to be so notified or by deposit in the United States mail of such notice by certified mail in an envelope with postage prepaid, addressed to such person at his address as shown by the records of the Department. The giving of notice by mail is complete upon the expiration of ten days after the deposit of the notice. Proof of the giving of notice in either such manner may be made by the certificate of any officer or employee of the Department or affidavit of any person over eighteen years of age, naming the person to whom such notice was given and specifying the time, place and manner of the giving thereof.
