Si tienes un accidente y hay daños de más de 400 dólares o alguien se lastima, debes llenar un formulario que comprueba que tienes seguro. Tienes 15 días para entregarlo, de lo contrario, podrían pensar que no tienes seguro.

Es como cuando tienes que mostrar tu tarea en la escuela. Si no la entregas a tiempo, el maestro puede pensar que no la hiciste.

Ejemplo Práctico

Imagina que Juan choca su auto y causa daños por 500 dólares. La policía le entrega un formulario para comprobar que tiene seguro. Juan debe llenarlo y enviarlo al Departamento de Vehículos en 15 días, o correrá el riesgo de que piensen que no está asegurado.

Penalidades

No devolver el formulario a tiempo puede ser considerado como que el vehículo no tiene seguro.

SECTION 56-9-350. Verification of insurance coverage form to be issued following certain accidents; effect of failure to return form; uninvestigated accidents. The operator or owner of a motor vehicle involved in an accident resulting in property damage of four hundred dollars or more, or in bodily injury or death, must be furnished a written request form at the time of the accident, or as soon after the accident as possible, by the investigating officer for completion and verification of liability insurance coverage, the form to be in a manner prescribed by the Department of Motor Vehicles and the Department of Public Safety. The completed and verified form must be returned by the operator or owner to the Department of Motor Vehicles within fifteen days from the date the form was delivered by the officer. Failure to return the form, verified in the proper manner, is prima facie evidence that the vehicle was uninsured. The operator or owner of a motor vehicle involved in an accident resulting in property damage of four hundred dollars or more, or in bodily injury or death, which was not investigated by a law enforcement officer shall furnish to the Department of Motor Vehicles a written report and verification of liability insurance coverage, the proof to be in a manner prescribed by the Department.
