Explicación Simple

Esta ley ayuda a las personas que han sido abusadas a recibir protección y compensación por sus pérdidas. Si alguien te hace daño, puedes pedirle al juez que lo detenga y que te pague por lo que perdiste.

Es como cuando un jugador de fútbol comete una falta y el árbitro le da una tarjeta amarilla. El árbitro protege al jugador que fue lastimado y asegura que el que cometió la falta enfrente las consecuencias.

Ejemplo Práctico

Imagina que Laura es víctima de acoso por parte de su expareja, Carlos. Laura va a la corte y el juez le ordena a Carlos que se mantenga alejado de ella, además de que debe pagarle por los gastos médicos y el alquiler que tuvo que pagar por mudarse a un lugar más seguro.

(vi) As used in this paragraph, the term "defendant's firearms" shall, if the defendant is a licensed firearms dealer, only include firearms in the defendant's personal firearms collection pursuant to 27 CFR § 478.125a (relating to personal firearms collection). In addition to out-of-pocket losses, the court may direct the defendant to pay reasonable attorney fees. An award under this chapter shall not constitute a bar to litigation for civil damages for injuries sustained from the acts of abuse giving rise to the award or a finding of contempt under this chapter.
