Esta ley ayuda a las personas que sufren abuso. Les permite pedir ayuda a la corte para protegerse y sentirse seguras.

Es como tener un candado en la puerta de tu casa; te da seguridad y te protege de intrusos.

Imagina que Ana vive con su pareja, Juan, y él la maltrata. Ana puede salir de su casa y, aunque Juan no esté en Pensilvania, aún puede pedir ayuda a la corte para obtener una orden de protección.

23 Pa.C.S. 6101 - Short Title Of Chapter This chapter shall be known and may be cited as the Protection from Abuse Act. (b) Effect of departure and nonresidence.--The right of the plaintiff to relief under this chapter shall not be affected by either of the following: (1) The plaintiff's leaving the residence or household to avoid further abuse. (2) The defendant's absence from this Commonwealth or the defendant's nonresidence in this Commonwealth, provided that the court has personal jurisdiction over the defendant in accordance with 42 Pa.C.S. § 5322 (relating to bases of personal jurisdiction over persons outside this Commonwealth).
