Explicación Simple

Si ves a alguien en problemas con su auto y quieres ayudar, puedes detenerte sin recibir una multa. Pero debes asegurarte de que esa persona no esté recibiendo ayuda ya y seguir algunas reglas de seguridad.

Es como si estuvieras en una cocina y ves a alguien que se le cayó un plato. Puedes parar y ayudar a recogerlo sin preocuparte de que te digan algo, siempre y cuando no estés rompiendo otras cosas en la cocina.

Ejemplo Práctico

Imagina que Juan conduce por una carretera y ve a María con el capó de su auto levantado. Juan se detiene para ayudarla, asegurándose de que no haya otros autos cerca y que ella no esté recibiendo ayuda de alguien más. Después de ayudarla, se marcha rápidamente cuando llega un oficial de la policía.

(a) A person who stops or parks that person's motor vehicle on any highway or street for the sole purpose of aiding another motorist who signals for assistance by raising the hood of the vehicle or displaying a flag, flare or similar signal is not in violation of any law, ordinance, or rule prohibiting the stopping or parking of a motor vehicle, and no peace officer shall issue a traffic ticket therefor if: (1) the motorist in distress is not already being given aid or assistance; (2) the person takes reasonable safety precautions in stopping and parking the vehicle, and conforms with other laws regulating the stopping and parking of vehicles; (3) the person is not in violation of traffic laws or rules other than the prohibition against stopping and parking; and (4) the person promptly leaves the scene if directed to leave by a peace officer.
