Explicación Simple

Si cometes un delito de tráfico en otro estado, Maryland solo te pondrá puntos en tu licencia si es algo muy grave, como manejar ebrio. Esto ayuda a que no te castigen doble por lo mismo.

Es como si en un juego de fútbol, solo te sacaran tarjeta amarilla si haces una falta muy grave, aunque el árbitro de otro partido ya te hubiera advertido.

Imagina que Juan, un conductor de Maryland, recibe una multa en Virginia por manejar bajo la influencia del alcohol. Si la Administración de Maryland recibe el aviso de esta convicción, le asignarán puntos a su licencia porque es una infracción grave, pero si solo hubiera recibido una multa por exceso de velocidad, no le sumarían puntos.

Maryland Transportation Code Section 16-402.1 (2023) - Assessment of Points Upon Notice of Conviction of Certain Offenses by a Party State to the Driver License Compact (a) When the Administration receives a notice of conviction from a party state to the Driver License Compact under Subtitle 7 of this title, the Administration may not assess points against an individual, except upon receipt of reports of the following convictions: (1) Manslaughter or negligent homicide resulting from the operation of a motor vehicle; (2) Driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or a narcotic drug, while intoxicated per se, or while under the influence of any other drug to a degree that renders the driver incapable of safely driving a motor vehicle; (3) Any felony in the commission of which a motor vehicle is used; or (4) Failure to stop and render aid in the event of a motor vehicle accident resulting in the death or personal injury of another. (b) Points assessed pursuant to subsection (a) of this section shall be assessed as if the licensee were convicted of the offense under the Maryland Vehicle Law.
