Esta ley dice que los médicos pueden ayudar a las personas que tienen problemas con drogas en cualquier lugar donde trabajen. Pueden darles medicamentos necesarios, pero no pueden darles drogas fuertes como los narcóticos.

Es como si un entrenador de fútbol pudiera ayudar a un jugador lesionado en cualquier campo, pero no le puede dar medicamentos prohibidos para que juegue.

Health and Safety Code - HSC Section 11217.5 Health and Safety Code - HSC DIVISION 10. UNIFORM CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES ACT [11000 - 11651] ( Division 10 repealed and added by Stats. 1972, Ch. 1407. ) CHAPTER 5. Use of Controlled Substances [11210 - 11306] ( Chapter 5 added by Stats. 1972, Ch. 1407. ) ARTICLE 2. Treatment of Addicts for Addiction [11215 - 11223] ( Article 2 added by Stats. 1972, Ch. 1407. ) 11217.5. Notwithstanding the provisions of Section 11217, a licensed physician and surgeon may treat a person with substance use disorder for addiction in any office or medical facility which, in the professional judgment of the physician and surgeon, is medically proper for the rehabilitation and treatment of the person. A licensed physician and surgeon may administer to a person with substance use disorder, under their direct care, those medications and therapeutic agents which, in the judgment of the physician and surgeon, are medically necessary, provided that nothing in this section shall authorize the administration of any narcotic drug.
