Cuando un oficial de policía pide una orden de protección para alguien que está en peligro, tiene que hacer varias cosas importantes. Debe entregar la orden a la persona que está causando el problema y asegurarse de que la persona protegida la reciba también. Además, tiene que presentar la orden en el tribunal y anotarla en un sistema especial.

Es como cuando un maestro tiene que ayudar a un estudiante que está siendo acosado. El maestro no solo habla con el acosador, sino que también se asegura de que el estudiante se sienta seguro y de que se hable con la dirección de la escuela.

Imagina que Ana llama a la policía porque su expareja la está acosando. El oficial que llega a la escena le da a la expareja la orden de protección y también se asegura de que Ana, y su madre que la cuida, tengan una copia. Luego, el oficial presenta la orden en la corte para que quede registrada.

Duties of Law Enforcement Officer [6270 - 6275] ( Chapter 3 added by Stats. 1993, Ch. 219, Sec. 154. ) 6271. A law enforcement officer who requests an emergency protective order shall do all of the following: (a) Serve the order on the restrained person, if the restrained person can reasonably be located. (b) Give a copy of the order to the protected person or, if the protected person is a minor child, to a parent or guardian of the endangered child who is not a restrained person, if the parent or guardian can reasonably be located, or to a person having temporary custody of the endangered child. (c) File a copy of the order with the court as soon as practicable after issuance.
